Greening industries
Our network is convinced that ‘technology’ will not be enough in itself to develop a sustainable society. Breakthrough changes, affecting many aspects of society, are needed: innovative business models helping users and consumers adopt new forms of behaviours, together with disruptive technological innovation induced by a combination of market forces and government regulation. Greenovate! is a professional network, but not limited to one profession to face the future greening challenges of our European society.
By greening, we mean:
- reduction of resource use
- substitution of traditional resources by new resources
- reduction of process energy needs (i.e. heat recovery, use of renewable resources, more efficient components)
- reduction of exhaust pollution and wastes
Greening initiatives are working because they lean on economic foundations.
Resources and energy used in any process have a cost, and so has pollution.
Greening industries intervenes on either of these points, proposing greener and most often profitable solutions to companies. Plant managers pollute because they aim at minimizing their costs: they will tolerate emissions up to the point where the penalty for more pollution becomes greater than the cost of controlling it.
We perform audits of sectors based on the ISO certification: initial managerial review to identify environmental issues, priorities for action (taking into account factors such as local environmental regulations and potential costs), environmental policy statements, performance targets based on the policy statement proposal for environmental management system with defined procedures and responsibilities, schedules for performance measurement and management audits.
Greening solutions
We stimulate, coordinate and connect high quality research with groups of industrial companies to design, develop and demonstrate how systemic breakthrough technology solutions can effectively contribute to a more sustainable society. Based on sector initiatives rather than single enterprise contracts, we are able to manage the delivery of demonstrators that prepare the adoption of breakthrough changes at large scales.
Risk assessment
Greening process in industry is risky since innovating at all hierarchy levels: we share the use of well proven quantitative risk assessment tools that can appraise the technical, financial, commercial and managerial risks of greening projects. This includes the risk of doing nothing, when looking at regulations development and impacts on the society as a whole.
Financing solutions
Thanks to our links with a world-based investor network, we support single or groups of companies at preparing complete business plans to attract investors of greening projects. Loans, equity, subsidies can be combined to support the implementation of greening projects wherever in Europe.
Implementation management
Whenever sector approaches are at stake, we are able to provide experienced project managers with a European background to coordinate demonstration and/or implementation projects, using innovation management tools that have shown superior performance when helping multicultural, trans-disciplinary projects.
