WeGaNet – Strategic research network of the German surface engineering industry

WeGaNet is a strategic R&D (research and development) network of the German surface engineering industry presently involving twelve industrial partners – most of them SMEs – and a number of leading research institutes. The aim is to develop innovative coating systems for a sustainable future of the industry as well as advanced process technologies and adapted measurement and control systems.

One key issue of the network approach is to jointly define the objectives of the network’s R&D initiatives based on actual market needs of the industry. These are translated into well-planned R&D projects with 1 – 4 year perspectives depending along the whole value chain of surface engineering.

WeGaNet is co-ordinated by ZVO in cooperation with i.con. innovation GmbH and is co-financed by the German Federal Ministry of Economy. The network provides an open platform for joint R&D activities. Hands-on support from the network management is provided to the definition of new projects, identification of suitable additional partners as knowledge providers for research activities, participation in national and international R&D funding programs, as well as support to marketing activities.
