The European Commission announced on Tuesday that it would make €35m available for its 2010 Eco-Innovation Programme. The bid is aimed at enhancing the EU’s environmental performance and competitiveness in the field especially amongst SMEs.
Funding this year will be targeted at projects in recycling, sustainable building, food and drink sectors and greening businesses. Participants will be eligible for financing up to 50% of eligible costs for proven products or services which they have been unable to bring to the market. Key speakers at this year’s conference stressed the importance of life cycle assessments and performance indicators in any successful application.
Although previous calls reveal a clear preference for SMEs (72% of successful applicants in 2009), the bid is open to all participants in Member States, EEA countries and accession candidates. For the 2008-2013 period the Eco-Innovation instrument will offer a total of €200m, funding on average 40 to 50 applicants per year.
Application deadline: 9 September 2009
