EU decision takers find agreement on RE Framework Directive

A new legislation on renewable energy, expected to influence EU’s climate and energy package has been agreed upon. Italy’s objection to an aspect of the law was finally overcome thus enabling the law agreement to be confirmed. The deal is seen as an encouraging sign of EU’s commitment to provide credible climate policies, and an important piece of legislation for the potential development and support of renewable energy around the world. Some criticisms did rise, mainly focusing on the aspect of the law that does not limit the large-scale production of biofuels which may give rise to other negative environmental implications.
