Commission plans for easier access to EU funds
Brussels, 08 February 2012 – A new document from the Commission outlines over 120 proposed changes to its vision for the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF).
First presented in June, the MFF outlines the rules governing access to EU funding for SMEs, towns and regions, students, scientists and others. The changes are intended to speed up the funding procedure and make it easier to understand.
Janusz Lewandowski, EU Commissioner for financing programming and budget, said: “EU funds can play a key role as we strive towards sustainable economic growth... We wanted to make the access procedure to those funds less like a maze and more user-friendly.”
The changes should also make it easier for green projects to apply for support, with standard environmental requirements being introduced across all funding schemes.
